Meet Thomas

At Riverside Gallery in London

Born in the United States, I returned to Germany, my parents’ homeland, in 1982 to study political science and journalism and settled there permanently and have worked in the media since 1985.

Tapestry has always interested me. I started weaving when very young and learned weaving techniques on my own. A deciding turning-point in my progress, however, was getting formal instruction in the art by attending one-to-one master classes with Hamburg-based tapestry weaver Rosemarie Romann-Moeller and afterwards by doing a diploma in tapestry weaving at West Dean College near Chichester in Sussex, The United Kingdom. Since finishing my studies there, I have gone on to set up my own workshop here in Hamburg.

Much of my inspiration for my tapestries is drawn from advertising, media imagery, Pop Art and historical symbolism.
